January at St Michael's Church

We had two new ladies join us at St Michael's this month, one thanks to a chance meeting at a wool shop with one of the Crafty Church regulars,  and one who saw the advert on Facebook !

We had some tapestry going on

some appliqueing of flowers from curtain fabric onto new cushions

 some knitting lessons

and some rotary cutter lessons

Sadly no photography lessons, so still my rubbishy photos!

January at Broom Farm

We are now usually 6 at the Broom farm sessions, with a range of previous experience.  The girls are all working on different projects: an I spy Quilt, a pair of girly pink quilts for daughters, a quilt for a baby due and week now, a table runner and another quilt

Photos will follow as soon as I remember to bring my camera!

January Session at Chertsey Museum

So sorry not to have posted this before, but life, deadlines, and disasters got in the way.

Last weekend was a busy Fun With Fabric weekend

Friday saw the January meeting of the Chertsey Museum girls - they showed the retractable tape measure covers they made in December, along with some projects they had made at home

For the January session we had decided to look at stencilling.  I struggled to find some appropriate ideas, so instead I twisted it a bit to making marks on fabric.  We looked at using ordinary colouring pencils, and then painting fabric medium (usually nixed with acrylic paint to make it permanent on fabric) over it, and using Inktense intense pencils which become more intense when brushed over with water, and become permanent on fabric.

You can see from my trial on paper how vivid the colours become when water is added (right)

I did take some stencils for people to use:

While other people drew freehand with the Inktense pencils

As you can see, we had a problem with the ink running, so I think most of us are writing this off as an "I know how to do it, but probably wont bother again" technique!

And one lady tried the ordinary pencils with the fabric medium

All are going to have a go at quilting their creations

2012 Sessions

Hi All

Hope you had a fab Christmas and Happy New Year

After my break in Australia, I am now starting up the 2012 Fun With fabric sessions.

We have a monthly session at Chertsey Museum, £5 payable on the day, booked in advance, from 2pm to 3:30 on the 3rd Friday of the month (next session 21st January)

Also monthly, on the 3rd Saturday of the month I will be at Windsor Baptist Church, also at £5 per session payable on the day.  The next session is Saturday 22nd January, 10:30am to noon.

Also on Saturday 22nd, Crafty Church will be held at St Michael’s Church, Horton.  This is a wider range of crafts, where people normally bring whatever project they are working on.  This is held 2pm to 4pm, and there is no charge.

First though, the weekly course is starting up on Monday 9th January at Broom Farm (Windsor).  This is arranged by RBWM Family & Community Learning, and places need to be booked through them.  Click on the hyperlink, or the tab above, for contact details.

Please feel free to contact me direct if you have any queries, but otherwise it would be great to see you at one of the courses.  Scroll down on this home pageto see some of the creations from previous classes if you fancy some inspiration!
