Teaching Tuesday

I was booked to teach at Chertsey Museum today, but was only expecting three or four children . . . I got 14 in the end!!!

We made wooded spoon characters - and the kids came up with some great ideas!

And this fab Santa!

I was really impressed with these two that were closely based on the original design

Wonderful time in Windsor

Thank you to Hazel and all the families that came to Tart up a Tote bag in Windsor this morning - I had a great time, hope you did too!!!!!

Wonderful One Off

The borough wanted to run a five week Fun a With Fabric course at Broom Farm, starting with a free taster session.  I'm not sure what was happening with their advertising, but only one lady signed up.  

The powers that be decided we'd go ahead with the taster session even though the course won't go ahead, so I got to spend two hours with Ellie - cutting bunting

and looking at and talking patchwork 

- a perfect afternoon . . . And I'll get paid!!!!

Pillowcase Tote Bags

Chertsey Museum hosts an occasional Bring a Bottle and A Friend sewing evening - Tonight we were making tote bags from pillow cases, some of the ladies wanted more precise instructions than I was giving, but the wine did help them losen up!!!!

So they had this as their sample

And a choice of pillow cases, and they got sewing

 

and managed seven very presentable finished, or almost finished, bags

 

And a few empty bottles!!!!

Friday Foliage

Today I spent a lovely afternoon with mums and children from Oakfield School. We have been working on a wall hanging to celebrate the school's 50th anniversary later this month.

The school is called Oakfield for a big oak tree in the field that is part of the playground, so we took the tree as our inspiration. Fifty leaves, and fifty inspirational words, six owls to represent the six head teachers, and one tree.

Today I brought in the embroidery machine and the embroidery design software on a lap top. "A" took a basic leaf design and with a brief lesson created the whole name of the school in embroidery

So he started with this basic oak leaf design, and had a five minute lesson in moving, rotating, duplicating and adjusting sizes, and then got on with it . . .

. . . and created the letters that, when I get them stitched out will look like this

The other children each had a go at programming the embroidery machine to stitch their own name

While the mums stitched leaves and owls to the wall hanging

And this is how it looks now

Museum Making

September's Fun With Fabric at Chertsey Museum saw us making chicken pin cushions . . . Well that was the plan!

Some are certainly chickens

 Others became mice!

The ladies also brought some show and tell - completed projects from previous sessions

We all had fun, especially as the lovely Museum ladies had made me a birthday cake!!!

Adult Education in RBWM

If you fancy joining a weekly Fun With Fabric course in Windsor . . . 

The Council’s Family and Community Learning Service offers courses for leisure, personal development and also as a starting point to further learning at local colleges.  Courses are funded in partnership with the Skills Funding Agency . There are many learning experiences  available in local community venues. A range of courses is offered from First Steps in IT, Customer Care and Office Skills, Fun With Maths, Sewing, Beauty and Craft workshops, Pilates Fitness, Bollywood, Dance and Yoga to Internet Shopping, Indian Cookery and Flower Arranging. If you are interested in learning a new skill or taking part in a new activity, book your place on a course by telephoning the relevant contact number in the prospectus or by sending an email to adult.education@rbwm.gov.uk.

Our latest Adult and Community Learning Online Course Guide  promoting part-time courses for adults in Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot from April to July 2012 is now available and can be accessed from the homepage of the RBWM website www.rbwm.gov.uk.   Click the link on the right of the home page for the latest courses.
